Fermented and Cultured Foods and Beverages

Get cultured! Learn how to ferment almost anything!

We will preparing probiotic, enzyme-rich fermented foods and beverages.

Why choose to eat more fermented foods?

Did you know that fermentation makes the vitamins and minerals naturally present in the food you eat more available to you?  Or, that bread leavened through sourdough fermentation is richer in folate than regular whole wheat bread?  Or, that fermented foods are rich in vitamin K2 – a known cancer fighter?

Fermented foods are essential to health – and lacking in most modern diets.

The simple act of fermentation, the transformative action of microorganisms, increases the vitamins and food enzymes found in dairy products, grains, legumes, vegetables, and fruits – increasing both nourishment and flavor.

Fermented foods are also rich in probiotics – beneficial bacteria that build immunity, improve digestion, and keep you healthy. Fermentation also decreases the sugar content of foods, which is great for those watching their carbohydrate intake.

Bring 4-pint canning jars so you can take some with you. If you have veggies from your garden to share, bring them as well.

$50 per person, minimum 6 people (max 10). All materials included.

This fun 3-hour class includes hands-on production of several combinations of vegetable ferments, a kombucha making demonstration, and recipes. You will be able to take home vegetable ferments, active kombucha scoby, and beet kavas.

Gluten-Free Baking and Cooking

Do you have questions about going gluten-free? Are you unsatisfied with the products available? Do you love yummy baked goods?

Whether you feel better on a gluten- free diet, or you are gluten intolerant or have celiac disease, we have yummy recipes to add to your life. If you’re gluten free, you know how difficult it can be to learn how to cook with only GF ingredients. Breads, pizza, scones, and cookies can all taste just as good when made gluten free.

Why struggle to cook gluten free when you can learn enough from these classes to open your eyes to a whole world of delicious choices? It is our recommendation that anyone who struggles with severe gluten intolerance takes the private six-week course.

Living with Food Allergies or Food Intolerance

A food allergy is an immune system response. It occurs when the body mistakes an ingredient in food — usually a protein — as harmful and creates a defense system (antibodies) to fight it. Food allergy symptoms develop when the antibodies are battling the “invading” food. The most common food allergies are peanuts, tree nuts (such as walnuts, pecans, and almonds), fish and shellfish, milk, eggs, soy products, and wheat.

During this class, we will prepare a magnificent three-course meal without using any of the common allergen foods. If you have other specific allergies we can address them. It is our recommendation that anyone who struggles with severe allergies takes the private six-week course.

Family Classes

Are you interested in having a fun and educational way to spend time with your family? This is a great opportunity to learn together while gaining a greater appreciation for what we eat and how it affects your household.

In the past, families prepared and ate 2-3 meals a day together. Currently, we are lucky to get a meal or two a week together. It is a lost art for a family to prepare a nutritionally-balanced meal together and to serve it attractively on a well-set table. This fun and entertaining activity brings the family together in more ways than one.
